An old slab on a moving base does not level back for long, so we replace it. We break the concrete out, haul it off, and cut back the roots that raised it. The subgrade gets compacted and a crushed-stone base goes down to drain and carry the load. On top we pour 4,000 PSI air-entrained concrete, reinforced and saw-cut with control joints, pitched a quarter inch per foot to shed water. Steps and stoops get footings set below the frost line so winter cannot lift them.
